Boom Pilates 101: What to Know Before Your First Pilates Class

Pilates

You did it! You booked your first Boom Pilates class! Cue the excitement (and maybe a few nerves). Whether you’re pumped, curious, or wondering what the heck “Pilates” even is, just know this: you’re in the right place. Starting something new can feel big, but Pilates is for everybody, at every level.

No matter your goals, more strength, better balance, deeper confidence, or just a moment to move, you belong in the Boom Room. Our studio is specifically designed for Pilates, featuring spring-loaded equipment and an energizing space that’s all about making you feel good.

What to Expect in Your First Pilates Class

Picture this: upbeat music, good vibes, and a pink-filled studio featuring spring-loaded equipment designed for a Boomin’ personalized 45-minute core-powered class!

Doors open 5 minutes before class kicks off, so be sure to arrive early. Your instructor will be there to welcome you, help you find your spot, get comfy, and gear up to Boom with confidence!

What to Expect:

  • 45 minutes of Core-powered Movements that seem simple at first… until they sneak up on you in the best way.
  • Principles-Based Pilates, developed by Joseph Pilates, is designed to progressively challenge your body through a layered intensity approach.
  • Intentional cueing from our fully certified instructors, who will guide your breath, form, and alignment so you move with intention and confidence.
  • Signature Boom Movements: a seamless mix of classical foundations and modern Boom-exclusive variations, all synced to an 8-count beat that keeps you moving with rhythm, precision, and control.
  • Personalized support in every class, with hands-on guidance and modifications to meet you exactly where you are, no matter your experience level.

And don’t worry! Classes wrap with stretches, so you leave feeling refreshed! You’ll be sore (in the best way), energized, and absolutely hooked!

Essentials for Your Boom Bag

Packing your Boom Bag with a few key items can help you walk into class feeling confident, comfortable, and totally ready to Boom. Whether you’re stepping into the studio for the first time or your fifteenth, these essentials will help you settle in, feel good, and make the most of your time in the Boom Room:

Water bottle: Hydration is a must for keeping your energy up and your body feeling great during and after class.

Gripper socks: These are required in every class! Shoes aren’t allowed on the spring-loaded equipment, so grippy socks help you stay safe and secure. Don’t have a pair yet? We’ve got you covered with cute options available in the studio.

Fitted, stretchy activewear: Think leggings, biker shorts, or anything that moves with you and stays put. The right fit helps you focus on your movement without distractions.

Hair ties: A simple way to keep your hair out of the way so you can stay present and comfortable from start to finish.

PRO TIP: Arrive 5 minutes early: A little extra time allows you to settle in, chat with your instructor, and become familiar with the space before class begins.

Your Boom Bag doesn’t need to be packed with much, just the right things to help you show up feeling ready. We’ll handle the rest once you’re here!

Your Boom Class Lineup

Every class is built to help you feel stronger, move with confidence, and enjoy the process along the way. Whether you’re brand new to Pilates or have plenty of experience, we’ll guide you through a class path that supports your body and your goals.

New to Boom? Everyone starts with Essential. Even if you’ve taken Pilates before, starting here helps you get comfortable with our space, equipment, and teaching style. It’s all about building a strong foundation so you feel supported from the very beginning.

Here’s how it flows:

Essential: Your starting point. These classes focus on breath, alignment, and core strength to help you build confidence and body awareness.

Intermediate: After 3–5 Essential classes, you’ll be ready to step it up with added resistance, flow, and more complex movement patterns.

Advanced: This is your next level. After 10 Intermediate classes and instructor approval, you’ll be ready for deeper control, advanced sequences, and elevated challenge.

Tower of Boom (All Levels): A dynamic, full-body workout using the Tower apparatus. While open to all, we recommend taking a few Essential classes first to feel comfortable on the equipment.

Boom Pilates is more than a reformer studio. We incorporate multiple Pilates modalities, including Chair, Barrel, and props, to provide you with a well-rounded, full-body experience every time you step into the studio!

How Often Should You Boom?

Let’s be real: consistency is everything. If you want to feel stronger, more aligned, and more in tune with your body, showing up regularly makes all the difference.

  • Just getting started? Try 1–2 classes per week to build a strong foundation.
  • Feeling ready for more? Intermediate clients typically aim for 2–3 sessions per week to maintain continued progress.
  • All in? Advanced clients can Boom as often as they like. Our membership options are ideal for incorporating Pilates into a consistent part of your routine.

Your first Pilates class might feel a little awkward. You might wobble. You might laugh. And yes, you might wake up a little sore the next day.

But you’ll also walk out feeling taller, stronger, and proud of yourself for showing up.

At Boom Pilates, we believe movement should feel good. So come as you are. Bring your socks, your energy, and an open mind—we’ll take care of the rest. From the beats to the breathwork, the guidance to the good vibes, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Your spot is waiting. Let’s Boom! 💖
